Fun Facts about Blackjack

Whether you know it as Blackjack, or 21(twenty-one), it is undeniable that you enjoy playing the easy-to-learn card game. Maybe it‘s the fact that you only have to beat the dealer to win and not your opposing players, or maybe it’s the extra money you earn when you actually hit the jackpot and are dealt a perfect blackjack (an ace and a ten, king, queen or jack) but either way, it’s an immensely popular casino game. Speaking of opposing players, it is sometimes good to strike up a rapport with your fellow blackjack players by socialising and conversing. If you decide to have a flutter at an online casino site, most also have chat rooms where you can interact. With that in mind, here are some fun facts about blackjack for you to use and impress both friends and new acquaintances alike.

Dealer draws 18

Mathematically speaking, the dealer’s average hand is a little better than 18, meaning there is not much margin for error when deciding if doubling-down, hitting or standing is a good idea.

One-player game

As mentioned previously, the aim of blackjack is to simply beat the dealer, and not your surrounding players. Surprisingly though, not everyone knows this and sometimes they make rash decisions with their cards, when they would have in fact beaten the dealer should they have just stuck to their original game-plan. So if somebody has a pair of tens for example, but is about to call ‘Hit’ in order to try and match the guy with blackjack sitting next to him, make sure to voice a warning!

Unlucky 16….and 15

In blackjack, most hands you are dealt can usually be worked with, but for others, you must simply bite the bullet and admit your likely defeat.  This is the case with 16, which is considered to be the worst hand in blackjack betting. Closely followed by the hand of 15, these card totals are ones you can only hope of avoiding when betting.

Hall of Fame Inductees

Opening in 2002, the Barona casino in California has begun its very own Blackjack Hall of Fame. Successful players are not the only members though, as founders, authors and analysts on the card game have also been admitted in years gone by. Who knows, a successful stint with your chips, albeit a severely consistent and lengthy one, could see you end up as one of the next entrants on the Barona wall.

More than one way to hit blackjack

Although we don’t advocate it, there are several ways to win at blackjack in the form of several different systems for counting cards. These systems include Hi-Lo, which is the most popular system, and Wong’s Halves, but that system is far more advanced. Other strategies card steering and shuffle tracking have also known to be put to effect over the years but be warned, casinos do not take kindly to players strategizing to manipulate the odds in their favour! Also, more decks that are used in a particular game, the higher the house advantage becomes, so make sure to note that, counting or not!
